Why Do I Need to Use a VPN?

What’s the purpose of a VPN, you ask?
A VPN’s primary purpose is to hide your online activities. While VPNs are commonly used to protect against hackers and spy on public networks, they can also be used to hide your IP address, browsing history, and other personal data on any WiFi network — even at your home.

Our privacy is more at risk the more digitally connected we become. Your ISP (internet service provider), companies that collect data to monetize, or sell to hackers to steal your personal information, could be monitoring or tracking what you do online.

VPNs allow you to browse securely and safely by encrypting and hiding your location. While we won’t go into too much detail here, you can read our detailed guide to VPNs to learn more about the function and definition of VPNs.
What VPN do I need at home?

Because your home network has security protections such as a username or password, a VPN is not necessary in public. Many people use a Bitcoin VPN to protect their home from online tracking and stream certain content.

Hackers can intercept everything you send or receive over an unsecure public Wi-Fi network. Although most internet traffic is not very interesting, hackers can easily intercept any information you send and receive. This includes sensitive information like bank account details, credit card numbers, login credentials, or credit card numbers. The risk of being attacked is higher when you have free internet access at the airport or public library.

Home networks, however, are safer. It is much less likely for someone to walk into your home and join your network. It’s unlikely that someone will attempt to hack into your Wi-Fi router if you have taken all necessary steps, including changing your default username and password. Using a VPN at your home for cybercriminals protection is not something you should prioritize.

A VPN can protect you even when you are at home. Any time you visit a website, or use an online application, your online activity can all be tracked. Companies can track your online activities to improve their products and show you targeted ads based on what you do online. A VPN can help you hide from trackers and strengthen your anonymity.

A VPN is a great way to protect your home network. It also makes it more difficult for others to see what your doing. They won’t have access to your IP address.

Remember that sites can track your activities on their websites and other websites even if you are logged in to their site using a VPN. Google and other companies use your data to learn more about you than they may realize.

Without a VPN, your internet service provider can access everything you do online. A recent Senate vote in the USA means that your ISP doesn’t need your permission to track or sell anonymized data.

ISPs may throttle your internet speed if you stream or download a lot. Your ISP will be blind if you hide your internet activity behind a private tunnel.

One of the best reasons to use VPNs at home is to stream content that’s not available in your country. Because prices can change depending on where you are located, VPNs can be used to access better online shopping deals or cheaper flights.

While VPNs may be legal in some countries, it is illegal to use a VPN for illegal activities. While VPNs can help conceal your identity and hide your IP address from others, copyright infringement and cybercrime could still land you in serious trouble. Make sure to read the terms and conditions before you set up a VPN. This applies to all online services.
What are the advantages of using a VPN to access your private network?

A VPN can be used to increase online privacy and security, but there are also many other benefits.

These are the top benefits of using VPN:

Be content no matter where you are traveling around the globe

The availability of video or other media content on your preferred streaming service may vary from one region to the next. If you travel abroad, it is possible that Schitts Creek has vanished from Netflix and Star Trek Discovery has replaced it. The big game may not be available.

VPNs allow you to connect to US-based servers (or servers in the country you wish to watch), so that your streaming service believes you are there and allows you to stream your favorite shows online.

Be calm about using Wi-Fi publically

Although we’ve all been there for a few minutes or hours, it can be a bit overwhelming. Public Wi-Fi has the downside that it is — well, public. Hackers can also enjoy using a public hotspot just as you do. Cybercriminals could see all information you send or receive, including passwords and personal data, if they spy on the network.

Although strong passwords and the use of a password manager can help protect your activity, it is important to use a VPN to secure your connection whenever you connect to a public network. You can also use a mobile VPN to connect to Wi-Fi on your Android, iPhone, or tablet. We don’t use our computers only online. Therefore, you need to protect your connection regardless of which device you use. Check out our review of privacy apps for iPhone that include VPNs.

Online banking with extra security

While you may have taken precautions to protect your bank account information, are you also checking the security of your internet connection? Online banking is convenient, and we all love it. But if your identity is stolen, it will not feel as good. Although banks have robust internal security measures, they are not able to protect you against every threat.

Online shopping is safe

Everything can be bought online today. Online shopping is quickly becoming the most popular type of shopping. If you see “HTTPS” in your browser’s URL bar or a lock icon, it means that the website has security protocols in order to protect your credit card and personal data.

Website safety is essential. Avoid shopping online without HTTPS. You can also add extra encryption using a VPN. There are many ways hackers can steal information from websites. It is better to be safe than sorry.
