How do Pokémon survive inside a Poké Ball?

We’ve all wondered what is happening to these Pocket Monsters after they’ve been taken captive. What’s inside the Poke Ball, along with how Pokemon can stay in one for the duration of.
Since the show’s debut in 1996, the fans have been asking this question: What’s in the Poke Ball?

It would seem that 2 1/2 years ago, this question could have been solved more precisely. Yet, what exactly the inside of the inside of a Poke Ball looks like still remains an open question. The closest we’ve ever come to this answer was an interview from 2016, where the producer of the series Junichi Masuda said the following (cryptic) statement:

I believe it’s an accurate statement to state that you’re cozy inside of the game of Pokeball It’s a relaxing environment, possibly something like a suite in a luxurious hotel.

To claim that Masuda did not leave the inside of the Poke Ball looks like up to interpretation is an understatement. Based on the way it sounds, Masuda could be describing anything from Genie’s lamp from Aladdin to the Polly Pocket miniature model dollhouse.

Thankfully that the Pokemon movies, anime and video games as well as other media have provided us with clues as to how they work as well as how they’re created and what the limits of these capsules that capture monsters are.
What’s the inside of the inside of a Poke Ball look like?

Based on the description above one can only conclude that, rather than being just a digital space, the interior of the Poke Ball provides an environment that meets the basic requirements for the Pokemon that have been taken. One of the members from The Elite Four has gifted us with an important solution to this question. When Pokemon who have been weak during battle are reintroduced in an Poke Ball, they curl into a fetal position to aid in healing of the injuries they sustained, according to Psychic-Type’s Elite Four member Lucian.

A different article addresses the issue of the reason Pokemon could be in the Pokeball. According to the article, the reason for this behavior is instinct. A Pokemon that is weak will curl up tightly to try and recover itself. This is why the Poke Ball was invented to make use of this defense instinct.

Lucian’s above quote from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum does shed light on how Pokemon survive in their Poke Balls, but still leaves out a fairly important element: how Pokemon eat in a Poke Ball. My hypothesis is that Pokemon within the Poke Ball can fall into the state of hibernation. But these have been (presumably) carbon-based which means they will eventually require food to transform into energy calorific. Perhaps there’s some magic-science that is transforming the electronic pulses that are inside the Poke Balls?
