There are many insulation materials on the market. Each material has a wide range of performance, sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and availability.
Knauf mineral wool products are of the highest quality and show exceptional performance in demanding projects including those that conform to the Passivhaus standard.
Glass Mineral Wool
Knauf’s high-performance Glass Mineral Wool insulation products contain as much as 80% of high quality recycled materials. These materials are then melted in a furnace to create sand, limestone, and soda ash. The molten glass is spun into millions of fine strands. Knauf uses ECOSE(r), a bio-based binder that is unique and revolutionary. This binds the mineral wool together to create a mat of material, which is then cured to make the final product.
The product’s density determines whether it is a lightweight quilt in rolls, a flexible slab, or a rigid slab and what its thermal insulation value.
Knauf insulation high-performance Blowing Wool is un-bonded, virgin fibrous, glass blowing insulation. It is made in the same manner as the Glass Mineral Wool but is loose-fill to be blown into cavities walls, partitions and timber frame walls.
Rock Mineral Wool
Knauf Rock Mineral wool insulation solutions are made primarily from volcanic rock, usually basalt and/or even dolomite. A growing proportion of the insulation is made from recycled material from blast furnace slag. The raw materials are then melted and spun into fine strands. To bind the wool together, a binder is used. The mat of insulation is then cut into slabs and wired mattresses. Knauf ECOSE (r) Technology is used in most Knauf Rock Mineral wool products.
