Neglecting your oral health can lead to plaque and bacteria buildup on your gums and teeth. If left untreated plaque can harden into tartar, which can lead to gingivitis. Gingivitis, also known as gingivitis, is the first stage of gum disease or periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease can be characterized by:

Bad breath can be a constant problem
Gums that are tender, red, bleeding or bleeding
Chewing can cause pain
Recessive gums or loose teeth

Gum disease, if not treated, can lead to serious dental problems such as tooth decay, infection, and tooth loss. Periodontal disease can cause serious problems, including tooth decay, oral infections, and tooth loss. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection that can spread beyond your gum line. It can infect surrounding tissues and eventually your entire body.

Good dental care can help you avoid all these problems. These are just a few of the many ways good oral health can improve your overall health.
1. Lower chance of developing heart disease

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States for both men and women. The bacteria from your mouth can get into your bloodstream and cause a buildup in your arteries. Atherosclerosis is a dangerous form of heart disease.
2. Reduced joint inflammation

Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation in the joints, blood vessels, and heart. Your chances of developing RA and other inflammatory conditions can be increased by oral bacteria.
3. Healthier pregnancy

Both severe and mild gum disease are directly related to pregnancy risks, such as low birth weights or early delivery. Research suggests that your body fights bacteria naturally, which could lead to premature labor.
4. Increased sexual performance

Erectile dysfunction can be caused by neglecting your gums and teeth. Gum disease bacteria can cause inflammation in your blood vessels. Inflammation in the blood vessels can cause a decrease in blood flow to the genitals. This can affect your ability to erection or maintain it.
5. Improved respiratory health

Bacteria can also enter your body through your bloodstream. Bacteria can enter your lungs every time you inhale. Oral bacteria can enter your lungs and cause respiratory infections such as pneumonia or bronchitis.
6. Certain cancers are at lower risk

Gum disease can increase your risk of developing any type of cancer, particularly blood cancers. This could be because of the inflammation caused by oral bacteria.
7. Increased fertility

Periodontal disease can cause fertility problems in women and can even negatively impact fertility treatments. This could be due to the effects of gum disease on hormones estrogen and progesterone.
8. Protect your brain cells

Gum disease isn’t just about the bacteria in your mouth. Your brain cells can be killed if your gums are clogged with tartar. This, combined with the oral bacteria that enters your nerve channels and bloodstream increases your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
9. Reduced risk of kidney disease

Oral bacteria can lead to chronic kidney disease and can increase the risk of death for older adults already suffering from this condition.
10. Diabetes complications are less likely to occur

Gum disease can make it more difficult to manage your blood sugar. This can lead to diabetes becoming more difficult to control. You might experience an increase in blood sugar production if your periodontal disease has advanced.

Good oral hygiene is the most important thing to protect your teeth and gums and overall health. Regular brushing and flossing are essential. To remove tartar buildup, it is important to get regular professional cleanings.
