A person has suffered life-changing injuries after an incident on a railway line yesterday evening (September 9)..
Emergency services, including officers from British Transport Police and paramedics, were called to the line close to Appleby Bridge railway station just outside of Wigan.
Services between Southport and Wigan Wallgate were disrupted while the incident was investigated. A casualty was located on the tracks. Paramedics have described their injuries as life-changing.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line close to Appley Bridge railway station at 21:29hrs following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and a person has been taken to hospital with injuries which are believed to be life-changing.
“The circumstances leading to this incident are currently being investigated.”
