Mystery still surrounds the death of a man who was found dead in his flat, in Lancaster, almost six months ago.
Despite numerous appeals for information, no-one has been arrested in connection with the death of Damian Jackson. The 50-year-old was discovered at the property in Regent Street, on Tuesday July 25, 2023. A Home Office post-mortem examination concluded he died from multiple injuries.
He was last seen leaving the Aldi supermarket on Aldcliffe Road two days earlier, at 10:18am on Sunday July 23. Detectives launched a murder investigation and tried to piece together information about his life.
Six months after tragic death of ‘funny, kind, caring’ Matthew, no-one has been brought to justice
‘My mum wasn’t a mum, she was a monster’
It is understood he lived alone at the flat, which was examined by crime scene investigators.
In a tribute Damian’s family said: “Damian, our brother and son, outshone us all with his amazing intelligence and quick wit. He attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School, as well as Edinburgh and Lancaster universities and excelled in all his studies. His unique gift for mathematics was astonishing.”
“Damian’s friends from across Lancaster have already paid their own special tributes which mean so much to us. He was generous and kind. He didn’t have a bad bone in his body. He wouldn’t harm a fly.”
“And yet Damian has been cruelly taken from us.”
“If you know anything at all about his murder, however small you may think it is, please step forward now and tell the police.”
“Damian, you have slipped into the next room and we will see you soon enough for a brew. Put the kettle on our kid. XX”
Damian was laid to rest at a funeral service, held at Lancaster Priory Church. Family and friends gathered together to celebrate his life and share fond memories of him. But although the funeral provided the family with some comfort they said they remain in “a world of grief without closure” as they are no closer to finding out how he died.
Lancashire Police said the community held the answers as they tried to piece together information about Damian’s lifestyle, his routine and who he had contact with. Investigators spoke to Damian’s neighbours about any sightings or suspicious activity at the flat.
In December 2023, they renewed their appeal in a bid to get closer to the truth surrounding Damian’s death. However to date, this has not resulted in any arrests.
Detective Chief Inspector Jane Webb, of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Incident Team, said: “Damian’s family have suffered major heartache over these last few months and we know that grief will have been more acute over Christmas. We continue to appeal for information and help from the public of Lancaster as we investigate his death.
“The last confirmed sighting of Damian was at 10.18am on Sunday 23rd July, at the Aldi store, Aldcliffe Road, Lancaster. “Damian was found dead at 11.04am on Tuesday, 25th July.
“If anyone has information which they think can assist us, please come forward.”
