A man has died after a crash involving a van and a motorbike in the Lake District.
The biker, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene when the vehicles crashed at Kirkstone Pass this afternoon. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 12.20pm.
A witness appeal has been launched by Cumbria Police, with officers describing the BMW motorbike as having distinctive metal boxes on each side.

A spokesperson said: “Officers investigating a two-vehicle collision at Kirkstone Pass at 12.22pm today (September 14) are appealing for witnesses. The collision involved a van and a motorcycle.
“The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his fifties, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Officers would like to hear from anyone that seen a motorcyclist travelling down the A592 towards Ambleside from Kirkstone Pass at around the time of collision. The bike was a BMW with distinctive metal carrying boxes on both sides.”
Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to report it online quoting incident number 83 of 14 September 2023. Alternatively, call 101 quoting the same log number to contact Sergeant 1962 Vickers and PC 2553 Taylor. People can also report information to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
