A sports bar featuring top of the range pool tables and rinks offers is set to open in the coming weeks. McNamara’s Sports Bar has acquired the space previously used as a gym on the cusp of Ormskirk town centre.
The venue, on Southport Road within the Malthouse Business Centre, will boast eight pool tables, huge flat screen TVs to play live sport and 24-hour parking spaces. A licence application has been submitted to West Lancashire Borough Council by owner Daniel Balshaw.
Mr Balshaw is seeking midday to 11.30pm opening hours Monday to Thursday and 10.30pm on Sundays, which he plans to be extended to 1.30am on Friday and Saturday nights. McNamara’s will join a range of independent businesses in the complex, including a car wash, martial arts gym and Spanish tapas eatery La Cantina.

The bar’s social media has been teasing an imminent opening date and also advertising several job opportunities, which saw more than 350 applications for roles at the new venue. Roles included bar staff, supervisors and cleaners with no previous benefits including staff bonuses and discounts.
The most recent post on Instagram, uploaded on November 20, shows a “sneak preview” of a Ultimate pool table which features super fine cloth. The post’s caption added: “Opening date less than two weeks away, big news coming soon”.
McNamara’s is the latest in a string of new bars to open in the historic market town this year It joins Tank Bar on Burscough Street, Kas Social on Church Street and Murphy’s Irish Bar on Aughton Street.
