Kate Garraway told reporters that her husband is ‘not doing great’ as attended last night’s Pride of Britain Awards.
The Good Morning Britain star was one of many celebrities out in force for the glitzy annual ceremony which honours ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The 56-year-old pulled out all the stops with her look as she strutted onto the red carpet wearing a pink ruffled satin blouse and a plum-coloured belted ballgown skirt.
The mum of two, who is married to Chorley’s Derek Draper, attended the ceremony alongside GMB co-star Susanna Reid, Strictly Come Dancing’s Amy Dowden, Helen Flanagan and Oti Mabuse. Kate could be seen smiling broadly on the red carpet and posed for the waiting photographers with her hands in her pocket.

Kate was asked by Mirror reporter: “How’s your husband doing?” before replying: “Not great, yeah.”
She continued saying: “He did want to come this year actually. Maybe next year for the 25th anniversary. Fingers crossed.”
A serious case of Covid-19 in March 2020 left the former political adviser with long-lasting damage to his organs and needing round-the-clock care. She has made documentaries detailing her family’s life as the former Runshaw College student battles the long-term effects of coronavirus, with both programmes winning National Television Awards in the authored documentary category.
She has also brought out several books to help others by describing her experience, including The Power Of Hope: The Moving Memoir From ITV’s Kate Garraway. Her new book also follows Draper’s health struggle and is called The Strength Of Love: Embracing An Uncertain Future With Resilience And Optimism.
When asked at the Pride of Britain awards if she had any personal heroes, Katie responded saying: “Yeah, yeah, my husband and my kids are heroes for sure. Yeah.”
Elsewhere, Amy Dowden decided to “brave the bald” at the event while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. The 33-year-old announced in June that she had undergone a mastectomy after discovering she had stage three breast cancer, and would be unable to have a celebrity partner on the BBC show this year.
Meanwhile former Strictly professional Oti Mabuse appeared on the red carpet wearing an Isabell Kristensen studded black dress paired with black Jimmy Choo court heels and a Tyler Ellis bag for the occasion. Other Strictly Come Dancing stars included actor Layton Williams in an oversized hat and his professional partner Nikita Kuzmin, former British tennis number one Annabel Croft and her dance partner Johannes Radebe, while Irish TV presenter Angela Scanlon matched her grey ensemble with professional partner Carlos Gu.
TV stars Carol Vorderman and Dancing On Ice judge Ashley Banjo will host the Daily Mirror Pride Of Britain Awards, set to air on ITV at 8pm on Thursday, October 12.
