Blackpool are closing in on a deal for Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan after triggering his release clause.
The Seasiders kick off their Championship campaign this weekend and are seeking to strengthen their squad with Brannagan a long term target. Blackpool have previously seen two bids for the 26-year-old knocked back over the past two windows, but the Oxford Mail report that Michael Appleton’s men have activated a seven figure release clause.
That price has been reported as between £1.2million and £1.5million and his arrival would represent a significant statement by Blackpool ahead of the new season. The club’s record transfer is the £1.25m paid for DJ Campbell in 2010.

Brannagan has spent the last four and a half years at Oxford, making close to 200 appearances and scoring 29 goals since joining from Liverpool.
Blackpool are also closing in on a loan deal for Theo Corbeanu will have a medical with Blackpool today ahead of a season-long switch from Wolves. The 20-year-old forward, who can play across all three front positions, will provide much needed final third competition for places in Michael Appleton’s aggressive 4-3-3 system.
Having spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons in League One last season, Corbeanu sees a switch to Bloomfield Road as the ideal opportunity to cement his place in the Canada squad ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
