Daniel Gretarsson finally got his first league start against Huddersfield on Boxing day and his boss thought he was ‘excellent’.
The Icelandic international has had injury issues throughout his time at Bloomfield Road but formed an impressive partnership with Marvin Ekpiteta last season.
Richard Keogh’s arrival for the Tangerines pushed Gretarsson further down the pecking order and left him limited for game time.

But given the rotation required at the moment because of injuries and increasing positive covid cases, he now has an opportunity to make a claim for a starting place longer term.
““Daniel’s a great example to everyone in terms of his professionalism and his attitude every day,” Neil Critchley told Lancs Live.
“It’s been a difficult situation for him, we’ve had a couple of conversations, he’s been honest with me and I’ve been honest with him and he’s eager to play.
“I can only pick eleven players, I can’t keep everyone happy but what we can do is have a level of communication and respect where we understand each other’s positions.
“Then I have to do my job and guarantee certain things to the players and the players have to do certain things for me and the club.
“They have to guarantee certain things and Daniel does that all the time and I was delighted for him and his performance, I thought he was excellent.
“It just shows you that if you look after yourself, you live your life properly, you train properly then you can step into a game like that off the back of little football and not playing 90 minutes for a while, and produce a performance like that.”
