Blackburn Rovers fans are still waiting for a breakthrough in the transfer market.
Jon Dahl Tomasson is now the only Championship manager yet to bring a new face into the first-team as the wait for additions continue. Gregg Broughton declared that Rovers have a budget to work with but that has yet to yield any results.
Of course, that kitty could be significantly bolstered by the sale of Ben Brereton Diaz. Last season’s top goal-scorer has plenty of admirers and with one year left on his contract, he could leave Ewood Park this summer.

After ending the season with 22 Championship goals, there is no shortage of speculation around his next destination. Here is a rundown of the latest reports surrounding Brereton Diaz’s future.
Sevilla ‘submit bid’ for Rovers star
La Liga outfit Sevilla have submitted a £10million offer for the Chilean star, according to reports from Alan Nixon. The Spanish club have been admirers for a while and have made their move, according to reports.
The article also states that Rovers value Brereton Diaz at around £20million, a similar figure they recouped for Adam Armstrong last summer in similar circumstances. The 23-year-old has one year left on his contract and the Venky’s are said to be keen on holding out for a higher figure.
La Liga clubs fighting Premier League interest
According to the reports, Sevilla, Real Betis and Valencia are all interest in Brereton Diaz and want to fight Premier League clubs for his signature. Leeds United, Everton and Bournemouth are all named as suitors by The Sun.
West Ham and Brighton’s interest is played down in the update, whilst Nottingham Forest and Wolves were linked previously by TeamTALK. With no manager or Sporting Director in place, a decision is not imminent on his future.
Nottingham Forest and Wolves interest
Nottingham Forest and Wolves are amongst the Premier League admirers chasing Brereton Diaz this summer. That’s according to a new report from TeamTALK who claim Forest are interested in re-signing their former forward.
The Chilean left the City Ground in a big-money move four years ago. Leeds United, Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton are the other three teams who hold an interest, according to this latest link. West Ham have also been linked by other outlets.
West Ham ‘scout’ Brereton Diaz
West Ham United reportedly sent Alan Irvine to scout the 23-year-old, according to The Sun. The report states Brereton Diaz could cost around £15million and is on David Moyes’ summer transfer wishlist.
Moyes has enjoyed success with Championship purchases after the acquisitions of Jarred Bowen and Said Benrahma. Hull City aceKean Lewis-Potter is also amongst their targets but Brereton Diaz’s versatility across the front line is believed to be attractive.
Tony Mowbray admission
Tony Mowbray has admitted it’s likely Ben Brereton Diaz could be sold with the Chilean in the final year of his Blackburn Rovers contract. The departing boss urged the club to reinvest that money back into the squad if he does leave this summer.
“If Brereton gets sold this summer and there’s a chance he will with one year left on his contract, I hope they invest that money and replace him,” he said after victory over Birmingham City. “You can’t hope that Jack Vale can replace him. You have to put someone back in the group.”
Sevilla move touted
The latest clubs to be linked with Brereton Diaz’s future is Sevilla. That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk.
The article states that a fee in the region of £20million and the allure of Champions League football should be enough to get the wheels in motion. Julen Lopetegui’s side are currently third in LaLiga which would see them qualify for Europe’s elite club competition.
The report also states that Nottingham Forest would be a due a cut after inserting a sell-on clause. Brereton-Diaz joined Rovers from Forest in 2019 for £7million.
Tony Mowbray stance
The Rovers boss is well aware of speculation surrounding his star forward. Mowbray is hoping to get the best from the Chilean in the remaining matches and review his future in the summer.
“He’s been scoring for us all season,” Mowbray said after the defeat at Peterborough United. “His career will go where it goes, he will look after himself, he’ll be in the last year of his deal and there’s every chance he will be sold.
“I’m not sure the owners will sanction that (a sale), but he’s a player that scored 20 goals by the end of the year but then got injured, and he’s been a big loss to the team. He’s got lots of talent and hopefully, he scores more goals for us before the end of the season and let’s see what the summer brings for Ben Brereton.”
Premier League interest
West Ham were the club most heavily linked with a move for Brereton Diaz in the January window but were reluctant to pull the trigger on a deal. Brighton & Hove Albion are also said to be interested and have an existing relationship with Rovers.
Jan Paul van Hecke and Reda Khadra have both enjoyed impressive loan spells at Ewood Park this season. That existing relationship could hold some weight in any possible transfer, reports state.
