Aston Villa have sacked manager Dean Smith following a run of five straight Premier League defeats.
Villa lost 1-0 to Southampton on Friday night and are just two points clear of Burnley, in the final relegation place.
Smith’s departure follows Norwich City’s decision to part ways with Daniel Farke on Saturday while Newcastle United and Watford have also changed managers this term, meaning only Burnley and Leeds United of the bottom six have retained the boss.

The Clarets collected a valuable point at leaders Chelsea on Saturday and have lost just once in five top flight fixtures heading into the November international break.
Victory over Crystal Palace at Turf Moor could see Sean Dyche’s side overhaul Villa in the table and the Midlanders may well have a new manager in place by the time the Premier League resumes.
Steven Gerrard is the early favourite with the former Liverpool man having enjoyed success north of the border with Rangers while John Terry and Paulo Fonseca are also among the bookies favourites.

Smith has been head coach at Villa for over three years, as he took over from Steve Bruce back in 2018 with the club languishing in the Championship.
After securing promotion back to the Premier League, Smith helped the club stabilise in the top-flight until a recent run of losses has seen him lose his job.
A 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Friday proved to be Smith’s final game in charge.
