Police have closed a main road in Carlisle after a serious crash involving two cars. Stanwix Bank has been blocked since just after 4pm today (Monday, May 2).
Drivers have been urged to find alternative routes until further notice. Traffic information service Inrix said two vehicles were involved.
Police said in a tweet: “Cumbria Police are dealing with a serious RTC at Stanwix Bank, Carlisle, the road is closed while we deal with the incident. Please use alternative routes until further notice.”
Inrix said the closure had led to very slow traffic in the area around Scotland Road and Stanwix Bank. Its latest update at 5pm said: “Road closed and very slow traffic due to crash, two vehicles involved on A7 both ways between A595 Castle Way (Hardwicke Circus) and Etterby Street. The road has been closed since 4.10pm.”
